What's old is new again. Or in the case of Star Wars, we are returning to a galaxy far, far away. But is it really any different? Same Theme, Different Story Recently I watched the new Star Wars movie, The Last Jedi. Many elements of the film referenced back to the original trilogy including escape from a planet with transports and battle on an ice world. These were seen in Empire Strikes Back. Also, the second film in its trilogy. Both movies are supposed to be the low point for the heroes. Evil has won or so we think. Even though the primary story is different, there are definite theme similarities. Not a cop out
Why use the same themes? Some people say that this is just a cop out. No new creative writing. I disagree. The main point of these new Star Wars movies is to introduce the series to a new younger audience. Of course there are elements from the old movies. Those are classics and if it ain't broke, then don't fix it. Kids of the 1980s really responded to those films and now directors of the new movies are trying to capture the magic. It is time for the next generation to take over and enjoy these films. May the Force be with these young Jedi.
