What's old is new again. Or in the case of Star Wars, we are returning to a galaxy far, far away. But is it really any different? Same Theme, Different Story
Recently I watched the new Star Wars movie, The Last Jedi. Many elements of the film referenced back to the original trilogy including escape from a planet with transports and battle on an ice world. These were seen in Empire Strikes Back. Also, the second film in its trilogy. Both movies are supposed to be the low point for the heroes. Evil has won or so we think. Even though the primary story is different, there are definite theme similarities. Twitter is dropping its historic 140 character limit. But is it dropping more than just that? Twitter officially increased tweet character limits to 280, replacing the historic 140 limit. The stated reason was because people have been demanding an expansion since 140 characters is too limiting. Apparently people need more characters to complete their thoughts. Last week, the Boy Scouts of America board of directors voted to begin allowing girls into its Cub Scout program beginning in 2018 and older girls in 2019. Initially there has been mixed reaction and several groups are not very happy about it. Regardless of the moral, spiritual, or historic reasons cited against this decision, there is a distinctive marketing angle that must be examined. |
